  • Wood pellets are a carbon neutral fuel; the CO2 they release when burned is equal to the CO2 they absorbed as trees.

  • The average modern, good quality biomass boiler is 95% efficient.

  • The UK has sufficient existing forests to sustainably power 400,000 homes and, forest areas in Europe have expanded by 17 million hectacres during the past 20 years.

Biomass Facts and Quotes - Did You Know:

  • Biomass is a mature heating technology and has been used for a long time in Europe, where it has proven to be an efficient and reliable heating solution.

  • Almost three quarters (74%) of UK residents do not know that biomass systems are a potential renewable heating solution.

  • The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has forecast that 750,000 domestic renewable heating systems will be installed by 2020.

  • The domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) provides financial support for renewable heat installation in both domestic situations (for a 7 year period) and commercial situations (for a 20 year period)

  • 81% of all UK adults agree that reducing energy consumption in their homes is a good thing.

  • Two or more domestic buildings, rated separately for council tax purposes but, heated by a single biomass installation via a heat network, can claim the 20 year commercial RHI as a District Heating Scheme. Scenarios for this can include granny annexes, home offices and holiday cottages etc.
